When an accident happens, you can feel the effects for weeks, months or even years. With prompt, professional treatment, that doesn't have to be the case.
Slips and falls are extremely common at any age or in any job. Many people walk away with nothing worse than embarrassment, but for some, a fall leads to serious injury. According to the CDC, one in five falls causes a serious injury, such as a herniated disc, fracture, sprain, whiplash or concussion. Whatever kind of injury you have, we're here to help.
Symptoms of slip and fall injuries
Even if a fall doesn't seem to need immediate medical attention, you may still be seriously hurt. Injuries depend on how you land: land on your back and you may injure your spine; hit your head and you may have a concussion or other head injury. You can also fracture bones or damage soft tissue.
Soft tissue injuries usually can't be seen, and left untreated they can lead to lingering pain. Minor cuts and scrapes heal on their own, but other injuries need more involved treatment.
Falls happen for many reasons, including uneven surfaces, debris on the floor, wet floors and unsafe walkways, and symptoms vary with the cause.
Treatment for slip and fall injuries
Some slip and fall injuries can be treated conservatively, with rest and over-the-counter pain medication. Others need more intensive treatment.
A back injury may need little more than anti-inflammatory medication and a break from strenuous activity, and many back problems respond to chiropractic care. A more severe back injury may need an x-ray or MRI to find the source of pain; if the spinal cord is damaged or a disc has herniated, surgery may be necessary. Head injuries can also need more involved treatment; moderate to severe head injuries left untreated can lead to other serious health problems.
